Who We Are

We are a national network of Old Lesbians over age 60 working to make life better for Old Lesbians and to confront ageism in our
communities and our country using education and public discourse as primary tools.
During biennial National Gatherings hundreds of us come together to share experiences and ideas and recharge our energies for the tasks at hand.

Our national organization is directed by a Steering Committee that works with local Chapters who operate in their own communities and
encourages Regional OLOC Gatherings.

We love sharing our wisdom, experience strengths and laughs with our communities as well as among ourselves.

Projects

Our long term projects:

The Arden Eversmeyer
Old Lesbian Oral Herstory Project

We are collecting the herstories of lesbians 70 years and older before their stories are lost forever.

They are an invisible population who were strong enough to live their lives and love whom they wanted in a hostile society. The project will include lesbians with backgrounds ranging from blue-collar women to those with visible high-profile careers.
Visit the Herstory Project page for more details.

In Remembrance

We gather and post tributes to our lesbian friends and mentors who have died.

starParticipate in Research
Beneficial to Old Lesbians

Sharon Raphael, OLOC's Research
Gatekeeper, has approved the following
research study by Amanda Ross, Ph.D.
candidate from Univ. of Akron. To see
OLOC's Research Criteria, go to:
http://www.oloc.org/researchrules.php

The Study:

Are you age 60 or older and a lesbian?

If so, then you are invited to participate in a study of well-being. The study consists of online questions. Participation in the study is voluntary and no identifying information will
be collected. I hope to gain more information about the psychological well-being of old lesbians in order to help researchers and clinicians better understand and assist this group.
In recognition of your participation,
a donation will be made to OLOC upon
completion of the study.

starOLOC CREATES THE DEL MARTIN OLD LESBIAN PRIDE AWARD

OLOC, Old Lesbians Organizing for Change, announces The Del Martin Old Lesbian Pride Award, created to honor Del Martin, activist, pathfinder, and OLOC member who died at age 87 on August 27, 2008, in San Francisco, the city of her birth. It will be awarded to a Lesbian 60 years and older whose life and work has and will continue to impact the lives of Old Lesbians.

Back in the days when wearing at least 3 pieces of "ladies clothing" could keep women out of jail and virtually every Lesbian lived in the closet, Del establishing a rare and powerful public Lesbian presence by co-founding the Daughters of BIlitis, the first US Lesbian organization. Her groundbreaking writing and activism on behalf of women in the face of patriarchy's deepest erasure embodied many great strengths of our tradition. With her lifetime partner, Phyllis Lyon, Del Martin advanced Lesbian visibility and pride and forged an enduring image that has and will continue to inspire generations of Lesbians around the globe.

OLOC is finalizing the details on The Del Martin Old Lesbian Pride Award and will be seeking nominations in the coming months. OLOC: PO Box 5853: Athens, OH 45701: www.oloc.org: 1-888 707-7506
